TOURI

A PROJECT BY KOICHI ONOZAWA

Layering distinct clays.

Polishing.

Applying lacquer.

Polishing once more.

Through this repetition,
a single surface emerges.

PHILOSOPHY

The present surface
rests upon layers of time.

Nature, cities, architecture, people, and objects.
Beneath what we see lies accumulated time.
TOURI expresses these quiet layers of time
in the form of a single vessel.

COLLECTION

Forms encompassing time.

PROCESS

Layering.
Coating.
Polishing.

Layering clay on porcelain, then firing.
Applying lacquer, then polishing again.
The traces are inherited by the next surface.

Bringing time to the surface.

With each polish,
the inner layers quietly emerge.

What is visible is the present.

Its surface rests upon layers of time.
